Hamstring strains remain one of the most common injuries in sports. Despite all the focus on preventing hamstring strains, injury rates are still on the rise.
In this episode, I’m joined by Holly Silvers, who has extensive experience working in US Soccer and the MLS, as well as the NFL and MLB. We discuss why hamstring strains are so common and often recur, and some of the things we might be missing when it comes to prevention and recovery.

Holly J. Silvers-Granelli is a board-certified physical therapist specializing in sports orthopedic rehabilitation in Santa Monica, CA. She completed her PhD in Applied Physiology and Biomechanics at the University of Delaware. She is a current member of the U.S. Soccer Federation Medical Corps, Chair of Major League Soccer’s Medical Assessment Research Committee (M-MARC) and the National Football League (NFL) Musculoskeletal Task Force, FIFA Women’s Soccer Medicine Initiative (M-MARC). MARC) (Zurich, Switzerland) and Aspetar Scientific Advisory Board (Doha, Qatar). She is also a spokesperson for the ACL Prevention Task Force of the American Physical Therapy Association. Additionally, she is a rehabilitation consultant for MLS’ Toronto FC, Seattle Sounders, Portland Timbers, and the Los Angeles Galaxy and LAFC. She also serves as a research consultant for hamstring injury prevention efforts in Major League Baseball (MLB).
