raw material
You only need two ingredients to make this gooey melted cheese and bacon snack…bacon and mozzarella sticks.

- Mozzarella Sticks – Choose cheese sticks with simple ingredients, preferably organic. You’ll want to take a quick look at the nutrition label to make sure it doesn’t contain starchy fillers.
- bacon – I recommend plain cut or thick cut raw bacon. Most store-bought precooked bacon contains preservatives that are not suitable for low-carb or keto.
A toothpick is also required to hold the bacon in place, but you can do without a toothpick as long as you place the cheese sticks in the seam of the air fryer.
Tip: You can use the air fryer to cook the bacon before you start!
See recipe card below for exact quantities.
instruct
Before you start, your cheese sticks and bacon need a little prep to make sure your air fryer doesn’t get messed up with melted cheese.
Start by putting the cheese sticks in the refrigerator for at least an hour.
I usually throw cheese sticks in the freezer as soon as I buy them so I can use them when I need them.
You need to cook the bacon until tender and cooked through. You can do this in the oven, microwave or stovetop. Bacon gets crispy as it cooks in the air fryer.

Cut frozen cheese sticks in half with a knife. This will give you 12 pieces.

Wrap each cheese stick tightly with a piece of softly cooked bacon. Run a toothpick straight through the cheese stick to hold the bacon in place.

Preheat air fryer to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Place mozzarella sticks in the air fryer basket or tray. You can cook several cheese sticks at the same time, but make sure they don’t touch each other.

Air fry the cheese sticks for 4-5 minutes or until the bacon reaches your desired crispness. The bacon will crisp up and the frozen cheese will soften and melt. Remove from heat and serve.
I recommend putting this delicious appetizer on paper towels to soak up some of the grease before serving.
Then, serve the bacon-wrapped mozzarella sticks with a side of ranch, tangy keto BBQ sauce, or keto-friendly marinara sauce.
Don’t forget to remove the toothpick before enjoying!
hint: The cheese on your fried mozzarella sticks will melt and overflow a little from the bacon. This is normal. Freezing the cheese skewers keeps them from completely melting from the bacon.

equipment
You only need a few pieces of equipment to make bacon-wrapped mozzarella sticks in the air fryer. To make these cheese sticks you will need:
- Air fryer – You can use an air fryer with a basket or an oven-style air fryer.
- toothpick – Wooden toothpicks are used to secure the bacon. Do not use plastic toothpicks as they will melt.
- knife – Cut the cheese sticks in half.

storage
There are a few ways to store bacon-wrapped mozzarella sticks. They can be stored before or after frying.
- Leftover cheese sticks can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 3 days. To reheat, pop them in the microwave for 30 seconds.
- Cheese sticks can be prepared ahead and stored in refrigerator Up to one month. When you’re ready to enjoy them, just pull out a couple and cook them as usual. Storing them in the refrigerator is essential so your cheese sticks don’t melt all over the place while cooking.
top tips
Freeze cheese sticks before cooking in the air fryer. This is critical. If you don’t, the cheese will melt too quickly and create a mess.
