Best Türkiye Burger Recipe

I wanted to make a basic turkey burger that you could eat on a bun, like a beef burger. Things without added veggies, like my Turkey Zucchini Burger or Turkey Broccoli Rabe Burger, they are also delicious. I buy turkey burgers from the supermarket, like Bubba Burgers, and I think they’re terrible. This turkey burger recipe is delicious and perfect for a quick dinner or a casual weekend get-together. It’s versatile and can be made with seasonings you already have in your kitchen. Feel free to get creative with your toppings, or mix different herbs and spices into the ground turkey mix to make it your own!

Türkiye Burger

Are turkey burgers healthier than beef burgers?

Turkey burgers are generally healthier than beef burgers. It depends on the type of ground turkey you use. I always go for 93% turkey, lean and not dry.

What do you use to keep your turkey burger from falling apart?

You need a binder to keep the turkey burgers from falling apart. I used whole wheat bread crumbs in this recipe, but panko would work too.

Türkiye Burger Toppings

  • turkey: Choose 93% lean turkey. 99% ground turkey is too dry. If you prefer beef burgers, you can substitute 90% lean ground beef.
  • Bread crumbs: Use seasoned whole-grain or gluten-free breadcrumbs to keep the turkey together.
  • How to add flavor to ground turkey? Dried onion slices, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, grated garlic and salted turkey burgers.
  • Burger Buns: I prefer whole wheat bread and often use Martin’s Whole Wheat Potato Rolls or Old Tyme’s 647 Rolls for less carbs and calories and more fiber.
  • Popular Burger Toppings: Cheese, tomatoes, red onions, iceberg lettuce, sliced pickles, tomato sauce, mustard, caramelized onions, and avocados are all good choices.

How to Make Turkey Burgers

  • To make the pie: Combine ground turkey, breadcrumbs, sliced dried onion, tomato paste, Worcestershire, garlic and salt. Divide the mixture into four patties and press down to a half-inch thickness.
  • To cook on the stove: Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium-low heat. When hot, lightly spray with oil, add burgers, and reduce heat to low. Cook four to five minutes per side, until browned and cooked through (internal temperature should be 165°F).
  • Roast Turkey Burgers: Clean the grill and wipe the grates with an oiled paper towel to prevent sticking. Cook burgers over medium heat for about 5 minutes per side.
  • Assemble the burgers: While the patties are cooked, toast and prepare the topping. Put the meat on the bread, then top with vegetables and condiments.

How to Grill a Turkey Burger Without Falling Apart

With a lower fat content than beef, turkey burgers can stick to the grill. However, there are several ways to prevent it from happening:

  1. To preheat the grill: Make sure your grill is hot before you put your burgers on. A hot grill helps to sear meat quickly, retains juices and prevents sticking.
  2. To oil the grill grates: Before you start grilling, wipe the grate with a paper towel soaked in vegetable oil to create a nonstick surface.
  3. Don’t move burgers too quickly: Once the burgers are on the grill, let them cook undisturbed until they loosen easily, usually about five to six minutes. If you flip them too soon, they may stick.
  4. Use a spatula: When flipping burgers, use a wide spatula to fully scoop the meat underneath to keep them from falling apart.

What to serve with this turkey burger recipe

You can go the traditional route and serve these healthy turkey burgers with sweet potato fries, french fries or onion rings. Potato salad, macaroni salad, and corn salad are some other options. I opted for grilled asparagus for something lighter, but this creamy cucumber salad, slaw, or greens would work just as well.

How to Freeze Turkey Burgers

Turkey burger patties are great for meal prep because you can freeze them raw. Store them in a ziplock bag with a few sheets of parchment sandwiched between them so they don’t stick together. Then, when you’re ready to serve them, thaw them in the refrigerator and cook according to the directions.

After cooking, leftover turkey burgers can be refrigerated for up to four days. Store them separately from the bread and other toppings, then microwave the meat.
