introduce:
CTS affects millions of people each year due to repetitive stress on the wrist and can cause numbness, stiffness, and pain in the fingers and hands. Here in this article is a brief introduction to CTS and a simple stretch to relieve your pain and symptoms.
What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS)?
It is caused by pressure on the median nerve, which provides movement to the forearm, wrist, and hand.
median nerve:
- A branch of the brachial plexus “C5-T1”.
- Provides most of the superficial and deep flexor muscles of the forearm, thenar, and vermis.
- Provides sensory supply to certain areas of the skin of the hand.
carpal tunnel anatomy
- carpal tunnel Consists of a set of “tendons, ligaments and carpal bones”. This is the channel from wrist to hand.
- The median nerve passes through this tunnel and provides sensation to the thumb, index finger, middle finger, and thumb side of the ring finger.
Major Causes of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Although most cases are idiopathic, CTS can be associated with any condition that causes compression of the median nerve in the wrist.
- Inflammation of the tendon or tissue.
- Repetitive stress, such as typing, using a computer, etc.
everything is in”The median trap”:

- Second: Edema “heart failure, OCP”
- Man: diabetes.Private letter
- I: idiopathic.
- A: Acromegaly.

- Ton: Trauma.
- R: Rheumatoid Arthritis.
- A: Amyloidosis.
- P: Pregnant.
Signs and Symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome:
- Numbness in hands.
- Weak to the touch.
- Pain in your fingers, hands, or arms.
- Paresthesia “pins and needles”.
- Burning or itching in the palms of your hands.
- Difficulty grasping.
** Symptoms get worse at night or a day after use.
Inspection and Diagnosis
- Logo of Phalen and Tinel.
- Confirmed by EMG test.
Phalen testing technique:
- Raise the Px arms to shoulder height.
- The patient bends the elbow so that the wrist reaches maximum flexion.
- Have the patient push the backs of the hands together. “Hold this pose for 30-60 seconds”
** This position should increase pressure on the CTS and nerve.
positive test: When numbness and pain increase.
Tynell’s sign: Methods of detecting stimulated nerves. technology: The therapist taps or squeezes the nerve
risk factors
- obesity.
- Pregnant.
- Underlying disease: rheumatoid arthritis, autoimmune disease.
- Repetitive movements using the wrist joint.
Management and Treatment
Physical therapy management may help relieve numbness and pain and restore as much normal hand and wrist function as possible before surgical intervention, including:
- rest.
- ice/hot.
- work fit.
- Wrist splint.
- to stretch Exercise: Improve wrist and hand mobility and improve joint function.
- strengthen Exercise: Improves hand and finger muscle strength.
- Median nerve slippage.
- Sticking therapy.
- Steroid injections.
- Surgery: Surgery may be required when symptoms are severe.

Here are 8 tips for coping with CTS
- rest: Resting or resting adequately during activity, even changing activities or positions for 30 seconds may help.
- avoid For long periods of extreme ROM, try to keep your wrists in a neutral position.
- Stretching exercises.
- Hot pack: Relaxes tensed muscles and reduces stiffness.
- Relax: No When writing PR with a computer, I put so much pressure on my hands.
- To wear a splint: Especially at night to reduce numbness, tingling and pain.
- Try gels, creams to relieve pain and relax hand muscles.
- Consult your physical therapist.
in conclusion:
Overseas Chinese Town is one of the most typical problems affecting the hands.
Individuals who engage in activities or jobs that involve repetitive use of fingers are at risk for developing this syndrome.
