One of the more significant astrological changes taking place this year is about to alter the direction of our individual and collective evolution over the next 18 months.
On July 17, 2023, the Lunar Nodes shift from the Taurus-Scorpio axis (where it has been since January 2022) to the Aries-Libra axis (where they will remain until January 2025). And different relationships with authenticity, courage, action, desire and self.
What are the Lunar Nodes?
In astrology, we use the Nodes to gain insight into our purpose, soul growth, destiny and evolution. Like destiny itself, the lunar nodes are not physical objects. Instead, they are two mathematical points in space, bounded by where the Moon’s orbit intersects the Sun’s apparent path, or ecliptic.
The North Node represents the direction of our individual and collective evolution. It’s in the opposite sign to the South Node, which represents what we’re about to post. Our individual goals are influenced by the placement of the Lunar Nodes at our birth, while our collective destiny is determined by the movements and cycles of the Lunar Nodes in the present moment.
The signs that govern the nodes are the same signs that govern the eclipses that occur during this 18-month period. These astrological events bring predestined opportunities and invitations related to destiny.
What the Aries North Node and Libra South Node Mean for Your Sign in 2023
These nodes work with opposite signs of each other, meaning that movement in one direction is a natural movement away from the opposite direction. Furthermore, each sign of the zodiac contains a primitive or lower expression and an evolved or higher expression.
As the North Node enters Aries and we are invited to explore the higher expressions and potentials of this fiery sign, we naturally turn away from the lower or more primal Libra expressions of the South Node.
Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, born of the all-encompassing consciousness of All That Is. This is our introduction to a separate self, the individual self, the ‘I’. It’s a fire sign, fueled by inspiration, passion, desire, and direction. Aries is here to initiate, inspire, create and pioneer in a new way. It needs the freedom, independence and empowerment to move under its guidance, create where it is inspired, and act on its innate cognition.
As an archetype, Aries lives within each of us. As the North Node moves into and through this sign, we are invited to tap into our reserves of courage. Have the courage to be yourself completely independently. Have the courage to express your desires and take action to realize your vision. Have the courage to say “yes” to yourself, even if it means saying “no” to others.
Libra is on the opposite side of the South Node axis. If Aries is the ego, then Libra is the other. It’s partnership, collaboration, and another perspective. Libra attunes to circumstances through intuitive adaptation, always keenly aware of what others need at any moment in order to achieve a state of peace, harmony, and fairness.
While Libra has the potential to be the medicine of diplomacy, grace, and grace, our journey into the realm of the South Node highlights the potentially harmful aspects of air signs. As a collective, we are ready to heal and grow these aspects. These include the need to be consistent with others, so much so that we give up our need to be ourselves. Furthermore, we need peace and harmony so much that we fall into unhealthy joy, passivity, and turn a blind eye to things that are not peaceful but still demand our attention.
Over the next 18 months, we will explore where and how we treat others so that we lose ourselves; where and how we adapt to circumstances so that we lose ourselves; where and how we compromise in our desires and ways. Calling our names so that another may shine.
During this time, fears and beliefs about personal inadequacy surface so that we can heal them. Additionally, aspects of ourselves we may have put aside or neglected come back to the fore, reminding us of what matters and what we deserve.
This time can heal our fear of what others think of us, and where and how we allow it to rule us, control us, and hold us back. It asks us to bring love into the parts of us that we have given up in the name of others so that we can revive those parts of ourselves and move into the fullness of our personal selves.
your invitation
Astrology is constantly asking us to make changes, whether through the daily movement of the moon, the seasonal changes of the sun, or planetary bodies that move every many years. In this way, it mimics life. We need to continue to meet new opportunities, invitations and challenges, which are reflected in the changing seasons of the Earth, the way our bodies change, age and decay. All we know is change, whether subtle or obvious, quiet or loud, intrinsic or tangible. Our existence is the existence of change.
There is a freedom that comes with asserting yourself, your path, your passions and your needs, an invitation from the Aries North Node. Invest your life more in yourself, your desires and your fulfillment.
Over the next 18 months, we focus on ourselves and heal the beliefs, hurts, patterns, and outside noise that try to tell us that this focus is selfish. Each of us has our own path. Each of us has our own passions. Each of us has our own needs. Each of us has our own worlds and dreams that call us to them. This chapter reminds you that your path, your passions, your needs, your dreams, everything you are is worth investing time, attention, energy and focus.
When you tend to the fire of passion that burns within you rather than someone else, that fire begins to grow. It fuels you. It motivates you. It motivates you. It will guide you. It propels you forward. It burns so brightly and beautifully that we can’t resist walking with it. It burns so brightly you can’t sit still. You have to move towards the dream that suits you. And you have to do it yourself.
The movement of the Lunar Nodes can be understood esotericly as a force that invites us into our destiny and purpose, or it can be seen as the inevitable and manifest movement, change and growth of life over time. Either way, they represent new themes, new focus of consciousness, and new direction of growth that we are exploring, whether we realize it or not.
