An easy and healthy Honey Dijon Salad Dressing and Marinade recipe using four whole food ingredients that mix together in minutes.
One of the easiest changes to make to your menu when you’re looking to improve your health is to make your own salad dressing.
Commercial versions contain a shocking array of toxic ingredients, from rancid canola oil to sugar, MSG (“spices”), GMOs and inflammation-inducing gum thickeners.
Here are the rough ingredients for Newman’s Honey Mustard, which is widely considered the “better” brand:
Canola Oil, Water, Creole Mustard (Distilled Vinegar, Water, Mustard Seed, Salt, Spices), Sugar, Apple Cider Vinegar, Maltodextrin, Honey, Mustard (Distilled Vinegar, Water, Mustard Seed, Salt), Less At 2% of: Buttermilk (dry), Sea Salt, Xanthan Gum (as thickener), Lemon Juice Concentrate, Onion (dry), Garlic (dry), Black Pepper.
Be aware that even brands that list extra virgin olive oil as an essential ingredient are suspect.
That’s because commercial olive oil is almost always a blend of EVOO with unlabeled, cheap vegetable oils like canola, sunflower, or soybean.
You really can’t trust your extra virgin olive oil to be 100% pure unless you buy it directly from a farm or a small company that deals directly with them.
There is a lot of corruption in the global olive oil industry!
So making your own salad dressing is indeed the smartest way to go! As it turns out, it can save you money too!
Here’s a homemade Honey Dijon Salad Dressing and Marinade recipe that I make most often for my family that costs just a few bucks a cup freshly made.
By comparison, small bottles of extra-virgin olive oil-based condiments cost as much as $7. Not only are these brands expensive, but you can’t even be sure the oil used is 100% EVOO!
All in all, three words work when it comes to salad dressings and marinades.
make. your. my own.
